Something about me…
Hey there! I'm Ariel, deeply passionate about animation and always eager to bring my ideas to life through drawings. You'll often catch me immersed in the vibrant realms of video games, with a particular fondness for the Pokemon series. My roots lie in China, but in 2003, I took a leap into the unknown and moved to Canada to pursue my studies. That was just the beginning. My quest for knowledge and growth led me to the United States, where I worked for higher education institutions. Alongside my professional journey, I pursued further education to explore what truly ignites my passion. This journey has been an exhilarating ride of self-discovery, and I'm buzzing with excitement for what the future holds.

My UX Journey
Raised by my grandparents, I vividly recall the thrill of my first encounter with the iPhone 3GS. It was a revelation – a device so compact, yet brimming with endless functionalities, captivating my imagination. This fascination led me to gift my grandpa an iPad mini after landing my first job, hoping he would find the same joy in it that I found in my iPhone. I eagerly pre-loaded it with apps, excited to introduce him to this marvel of technology. However, the experience was daunting for him, an 80-year-old physician with a zest for learning, yet finding the icons, fonts, and gestures overwhelming. The iPad eventually lay untouched, a silent testament to a design not suited for all.
This moment of realization sparked a profound question within me: Why are devices that seem intuitive to some, alien to others? Could there be a bridge to this gap? These reflections steered me towards pursuing a second degree in Psychology, seeking to understand the cognitive aspects of aging and technology interaction, and a master's degree in Human Factors and Ergonomics.
As my knowledge deepened, so did my curiosity to materialize my ideas, leading me to the realm of User Experience (UX). I embraced design as my minor, mastering tools like Axure, Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator. My journey through design education culminated in the creation of some high-fidelity app prototypes.
Once Mencius said: "Treat our elders as they ought to be treated, as well as the elders of others. Treat our young as they ought to be treated, as well as the young of others." Inspired by his philosophy of extending respect and care to both our elders and the youth, I've found a guiding principle for my role as a UX designer. His teachings remind me that good design transcends mere aesthetics; it's about inclusivity, empathy, and making technology accessible to everyone.
As I embark on my UX journey, it's not just about designing; it's about making a difference, one user experience at a time. My adventure in UX has only just begun, and I am eager to contribute to a world where technology serves everyone, bridging the gap between young and old, one design at a time.
